LC104BW
SAINTBOND
Products Description:
Wire rope or cable is made by weaving many individual wires together to produce a product that is both strong and flexible. Wire rope is used in many safety critical applications in addition to chair lift and gondola systems. Some of these applications include hoisting systems, such as cranes and winches; guy wires used in tall antennas and towers; and mooring lines of oil drilling platforms at sea. A cable failure in one of these applications could have very serious consequences.
All wire rope eventually wears out making periodic inspections necessary throughout the service life of the rope. Wire rope is prone to damage and wear due to abrasion, fatigue, corrosion, and improper handling. NDT personnel look for localized flaws or loss of metallic cross-sectional area using a variety of inspection methods. The least sophisticated method is visual inspection. Inspector simply look for broken strands, wear and corrosion on the surface of the cable. However, for a more thorough evaluation, a number of instruments have been developed that allow inspectors to assess the internal areas of the cable.
The LC104B range of rope clamp load cells are for measuring tension in wire ropes. These load cells have a double ended beam design and are available in 10/20/30/40/50/60/100/150/200/250/300kN nominal capacities.
They are particularly well suited for retrospective installation onto wire ropes when approximate measurement of the load is required for remaining life calculations and basic load display and an in-line load cell is not readily available. As they are calibrated in situ with the associated data logger or load limiter, they do not require specific tensioning.
Features:
◎Can be fitted retrospectively;
◎Sufficiently accurate for determining remaining design life of cranes and hoists;
◎Available in capacities for measuring rated loads up to 310/20/30/40/50/60/100/150/200/250/300kN per fall;
◎Can be fitted to ropes with diameters between 6 and 36 mm.
◎IP67/IP68 rated;
◎Simple installation - clamp on, connect up 4 wires and calibrate in situ;

Products Specification:
This mechanical load cell has been designed to provide a trip point for lifting systems which have a dead end wire rope. The trip point provides a signal that the user may employ depending on his requirements, e.g.
◎For load limiting in lifting systems
◎To limit the speed as a function of the load on traversing
◎To limit the effort applied for pulling
This universal load cell is recommended for its simplicity and quick lifting capability.

FAQ:
What torque do these need to be clamped to?
As these load cells are calibrated in situ, they do not need to be torqued up to a specific value. Instead, tighten up the clamp bolts until the back of the rope just touches the body of the load cell.
I don't have a dead end on my rope. Can I still use one of these load cells?
Yes, provided that the compensating sheave doesn't move in normal use, in which case you can mount the load cell 1m below.
I want to accurately measure the load being picked up by my crane (to within a kg). Can I use this load cell?
No. You will need to measure the load directly as there is too much error caused by friction in the pulleys, sheave blocks and bearings. This can be up to 4% of the load being lifted.
I am replacing one load cell with another identical unit. Will I need to recalibrate my data logger / load limiter?
Yes, the calibration is specific to the load cell and its installation on the rope.
What devices can be connected to the LC104B?
These load cells are sold primarily for use with Sole Digital data loggers, load limiters and displays. However, they are just a strain gauge load cell so can be used wherever one of these is required.
